Teen Night is a social program for our local teens to get together in a fun, safe environment on Friday evenings throughout the school year. Activities are lead by our Teen Night Facilitators: consisting of on-island teen nights at our Hornby Island Community School, as well as off-island adventures like attending the movies, swimming pool / recreation facilities in Courtenay/Comox, and more. The Teen Night Facilitators hold a safe space, connect with the teens, and create a supportive environment for them to express themselves, hang out and have fun! All local teens in grades 8 through 12 are welcome to attend.
What do the teens get up to?
- Our Hornby teens have had the opportunity to spend a day at The Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Centre climbing, kayaking, sky-walking in the high ropes, and exploring their physical abilities through fun and challenging activities! Through teamwork, problem solving and positive support to one another, the teens impressed everyone with their “can do” attitude and met many mental and physical challenges head on.
- They have attended large-screen movies at the movie theatre in Courtenay,
- Participated in an on-island Karaoke & Dance party at our Community Hall, and more….
We celebrate the end of each school year by inviting the Grade 7’s (who will go into grade 8 in the Fall and join the teens in Highschool) to an event at the beach: for paddle boarding, beach games and a fire – this is a special way to introduce and integrate the upcoming teens with the group!
