Community Programs

Community Programs are developed and offered in response to expressed community needs. Program particulars vary year to year and are developed by the Child, Youth and Community programs coordinator in conjunction with community members.

Toddler Drop-In Program is for children up to 30 months and their parents. It operates September through May on Tuesdays 9am to noon in the Room To Grow on the school grounds. One paid staff person oversees the program.

The Youth Group offers activities and support for youth ages 10–13. Youth outreach workers facilitate discussions around topics such as body image, peer pressure, sexual issues and safety concerns.

After School Programs offer sports and art activities for children from Kindergarten to Grade 7 and include local home-schooled children. Instructors and coaches from the community supervise – some as volunteers and others are paid a small honorarium.

Teen Night Drop In is a social program for local teens to get together in a fun, safe environment on Friday evenings October through May. Paid supervisors oversee activities and facilitate teens from Hornby Island connecting with teens from Denman Island.
