The Hornby Island Community Fund (HICF) & Hornby Island Educational Society (HIES) are pleased to announce applications for the Bursary are now open!

May 31st – August 4th 2026

The Bruce Fairbairn Memorial Bursary was established in 1999, in honour of the encouragement and support that Bruce gave to Hornby musicians. The intent of the bursary is to support Hornby students of any age in their pursuit of post-secondary education at an accredited institution in Canada.

While applications for all fields of study are welcome, preference is given to students studying Music and/or Fine Arts.

The award at this time is $1000. The bursary is to help with tuition costs and payment is made directly to the institution that the student plans to attend in the upcoming academic year. Basic criteria for eligibility:

• Must be a resident of Hornby Island
• Financial Need
• Student must be pursuing studies at an accredited Canadian institution beginning September 2026.

Applications must be complete and must be received by email by 4pm on August 1, 2026
